Designed by Pete Melvin of Morrelli & Melvin Inc. and Jeremy Laundergan of Askeland Engineering, the new Nacra A2 A-Class Catamaran builds on their success with the Waterat A-Cat they designed in 1996. Pete Melvin won the A-Cat World Championship with the Waterat in 1997 and the design went on to win five consecutive North American Championships.
The new Nacra A2 A-Cat design features low wetted surface area hulls with a high longitudinal righting moment to resist pitching. The low profile bows reduce windage and provide a clean entry for both light air and hull flying conditions.
May-June 2007: Jeremy Laundergan won both the Seattle and Santa Cruz West Coast A-Class Catamaran World Championship Qualifying Regattas in a Nacra A2
January 2007:After winning the 2006 North American Champs, Lars Guck won the A-Class Midwinter Championship in his custom Nacra A3.
2006 introduced the Nacra A3 as a model change which included repositioning the forward beam and adding a splash fairing between the foredecks and forward beam.

NACRA A-2 wins Sailing World Magazine's 2005 “PERFORMANCE BOAT OF THE YEAR”
The A2 "Tooling and Prototyping" project wins Project Management Institute's Orange County chapter "2004 Project of the Year" award.
The Nacra A2 hulls, daggerboards and rudders are fabricated by Morrelli & Melvin Inc. and feature vinylester resin infused carbon fiber skins. The carbon Hall Spars mast is autoclave cured. And the beams are prepreg carbon. Performance Catamarans, Inc. assembles the components and provides marketing, sales and distribution services.
The International A-Class Catamaran is a high-performance “box rule” International Sailing Federation design specification dictating an 18-foot long, 7½-foot wide catamaran with 150 square feet of sail area and a minimum weight of 165 pounds. The class has been steadily gaining popularity in the US since the World Championship was hosted in Long Beach, CA in 1997.
Askeland Engineering has joined the MultiMarine L-7 Design Team. The L-7 is a lightweight high performance 23' trimaran perfect for a daysail or quick overnight trip.
This Cruising Catamaran was designed to fill the niche between racing and charter catamarans. She is light and long and has comfortable amenities with an emphasis on sailing.
Ventura Multihulls - Askeland Engineering is providing hydrostatic calculations and laminate analysis for the Conser 40 Catamaran built by Ventura Multihulls. The Conser 40 is also on its way to South African production.
